Nicaragua..what??
Hello, SOOOO I know I have been so so so bad about keeping up with my blog. *slaps back of hand* I know everyone is always interested in hearing the what happened of my life here. I have severely slacked. no more!
So I got the amazing chance to go to NIcaragua for a weekend. And it was a fantastic trip. The bus ride was nice and long, and we left at like 3 am. :/ but once we got to the border, we picked up our tour guide for the weekend, and all along the drive to Pavas, we heard about the history and legends of Nicaragua and how it got its name, as well as the story behind the placements and names of the oldest cities there. Quite interesting stuff!
Once we got to Pavas, we got to see this old cathedral, and the inside was beautifully painted and then we got to take tricycle cart tour rides around the town before getting on the bus and heading to Grenada. Grenada was so beautiful, and once we arrived there we all settled into our hotel, got lunch and took a horse carriage tour around the city. We got to learn about and see: the old train station, the old cathedrals, and we even got to pay a dollar and climb up to the bell tower and see the whole city from high up above, even seeing the lake in the distance. It was such a fantastic day! We all spent that night chatting out by the pool, just enjoying the nice evening:)
Day 2: we woke up, and had a tasty breakfast at the hotel, then loaded up in the bus to head out to our day activities. We got to take this speed boat tour around the various islands that are on the lake. We learned about how the richest families live there because of how expensive even a tiny island land piece is! After that we took to bus to the capitol city, stopping first to zip line across a dormant volcano’s lagoon. What a rush! I ate some subway after that at this greatly americanized looking mall, I also had a delicious ice cream cone to top off the afternoon! Next we got to check out a greatly active volcano. It was so active that the air was so full of smoke and sulfur smell(?) that you couldnt stay outside too long without feeling like you took a great blow to the lungs. It was cool to walk up to this cross that was on top, allowing us to look down into the crater that is the top of the volcano. It was constantly smoking and looked awesome! After all of that we returned to Grenada, had some time to relax, and ate a delicious dinner consisting of gallo pinto, carne asada, and salad. Yum Yum Yum! After another night of hanging out by the pool, looking at the stars, and enjoying the cool evening air, I went to bed, and the next day we made our way back across to the Costa Rica side. Great weekend. :)
